Norm MacDonald Biography

Norm MacDonald was born on 17 October 1959 in Quebec City. He is son of Percy Macdonald and Ferne Macdonald. His father helped liberate the Netherlands by serving with Canadian Army in world war 2.

He have one older and one younger brother named Neil Macdonald and Leslie Macdonald respectively.

He firstly performed for his comedy at stand up club in Ottawa. He regularly appeared on amateur nights at Yuk Yuk in 1985. 

Norm enrolled Broadcasting Television program in Algonquin College of Ontario, but he was not able to complete that course.

While touring in Canada and doing standup comedy Norm worked as writer for The Dennis Miller Show in 1992. He also wrote for “Roseanne” from 1992 to 1993 before being famous on Saturday Night Live.

In 1993 to 1998 he did memorable impersonations of celebrities and spent 3 years as the anchor of the long term show Saturday Night Live.

Norm is mostly known for his irreverent humor and low key delivery on comedy show Saturday Night Live where he started to work in 1993.

After leaving Saturday Night Live in 1998, He co-written and seen in the “revenge comedy” Dirty Work (1998).

In 1999 Norm worked in “The Norm Show” which was later renamed as “Norm”. He worked in that show with Laurie Metcalf, Artie Lange, and Ian Gomez.

On 12 November 2000, he was seen on the Celebrity Edition of “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?”, and he won $500,000 which he donated to Paul Newman’s Hole in the Wall Charity Camp.

He got married with the therapist Connie Vaillancourt in 1988 and they had son named Dylan who was born in 1993. Later in 2006 Norm divorced with his wife Vaillancourt.

Norm was developing a series for Comedy Central that he described as a sports version of The Daily Show in September 2010. He worked as the spokes person at Safe Auto Insurance Firm in 2012.

Norm premiered his new podcast named as Norm Macdonald Live which was co-hosted with Adam Eget in 2013. They were streaming that podcast live on Video Podcast Network every week, and then they posted that podcast on YouTube.

On May 2017, Norm has worked on his stand-up skills to improve them, going forward to a more reserving style.

After Netflix ordered 10 episodes of a new talk show entitled Norm Macdonald. This show was hosted by Norm Macdonald and then it was premiered on 14 September 2018.

Norm also launched a dating app named as “LOKO” in February 2020. He co-created that app which  heavily depends on video to do first impressions.
